Tomorrow, we have Manj deSilva with Laureate Imports bringing his Slovenian A Game and teaching us all there is to know about this under-the-radar wine region!
Why do I know so little about Slovenia?
Easy. Once part of former Yugoslavia (remember Yugoslavia, yall!?!), Slovenia became Independent in 1991. The vast knowledge of history you have for many Europe regions does not exist for Slovenia. We're currently writing history and we're glad wine is a huge part of it!
Where is Slovenia? I need to see a map.
Slovenia lies in the heart of Europe, where the Alps meet the Mediterranean and the Pannonian Basin. AKA in between Italy, Austria, Hungary, Croatia.
The oldest vine in the world grows in Slovenia. 400 years old it is registered in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest vine in the world.
