Joseph Jewell Winemaker Dinner this Thursday?
If so, make sure to stop by 3 Parks Wine Shop for a pre-dinnner wine tasting!
Last Sunday night we had dinner at the Goat Farm with the guys from Idle Cellars and SofiaXIV. California natives, Ari Heavner and Ben Larks are some of the funniest winemaking dudes we've met in a while. Their hilarious personalities and charming demeanors definitely does not interfere with the making of serious California wines. The two of them jive so well naturally, and it is very obvious when tasting their wines. Ben and Ari are relatively new winemakers, having only been making wine for 9 years, but you wouldn't know that when tasting through their wines.
A lot of what makes a winemaker dinner special is the ambiance and decor where the dinner is held. The Goat Farm is such a great place to host a dinner like this because of the art, the beauty, and the seclusion that you can't find in many other places. The Italian themed quaint dinner definitely took me back to days in Italy.
We tasted through a selection of Idle Cellar wines that are currently in the Georgia market, Wine Club only wines, and a couple of their Library Collection wines. We sipped on their newest vintage of Sauvignon Blanc which was tropical, balanced, clean, and screamed Rosemary Beach vacay. The whole room was in awe when Ari poured the 2012 Viogner in our glasses. It was phenomenal. It was so fresh, but had a texture and weight that paired perfectly with Luca Barolli's traditional Parma dishes.
The Grenache and Syrah, which you will be able to find at the shop now, were definitely the standouts of the evening. The Grenache was so beautiful and delicate, but had enough structure and backbone that a Cabernet drinker would love it. And then there was the Syrah, oh the Syrah. All I have to say about that is see for yourself. Stop by and grab a bottle or two at 3 Parks! You'll be so glad you did. And make sure to keep an eye out for an email next time they're in town. We're planning on having a wine tasting in the shop featuring the Idle wines with the Idle guys.
